This time, I would like to talk about thinning hair from the perspective of an experienced hairdresser and an evidence-based doctor.

A hard scalp can lead to thinning hair!

I often hear that people with a hard scalp are more likely to have thinning hair, but when I was working as a hairdresser, I felt that people with a hard scalp really are more likely to have thinning hair. So today, I would like to talk with Aiko-sensei about the relationship between scalp hardness and thinning hair.

From a doctor's point of view, it is not clear at this time whether poor blood circulation in the scalp causes the scalp to become hard. However, it may be possible to say that there is a relationship between "poor blood circulation in the scalp" and "thinning hair." However, there is no evidence.

In the first place, thinning hair and AGA (androgenetic alopecia) are caused by the action of male hormones on the cells of the hair root. It is not known whether poor blood circulation in the scalp causes AGA (androgenetic alopecia) or worsens hair loss, butI think it can be said that "improving the scalp environment" can have a "hair growth effect."

What is the relationship between lifestyle habits and thinning hair?

We will explain how lifestyle habits are related to hair loss.

From my experience looking at the scalps of many customers, I've noticed that many people with thinning hair are obese or like oily foods. I also think that many people with poor eyesight are prone to scalp thinning.

As a doctor, I can tell you that poor blood circulation in the scalp is closely related to diet. Stress, lack of sleep, and smoking are also related. These can lead to arteriosclerosis and narrowing of blood vessels. Hormonal imbalance can also cause hair loss.

What foods and nutrients are needed for hair growth?

A well-balanced diet is very important when it comes to hair growth. Here we will introduce the specific nutrients you need based on medical evidence.

For hair growth, you need the protein and vitamins found in meat and fish.
Among vitamins, biotin, a type of B vitamin, is an important ingredient that supports the production of keratin, the main component of hair.

Foods that are rich in biotin include oysters, nuts, small fish, freeze-dried tofu, chicken liver, and egg yolks. Zinc is also an ingredient necessary for hair growth and is found in meat and nuts. If you find it difficult to incorporate it into your daily diet, taking supplements is another option.

Do people who drink alcohol regularly suffer from hair loss?

Based on doctor's advice, we will explain whether daily drinking alcohol is related to thinning hair and blood circulation in the scalp.

Drinking a moderate amount every day is fine, but drinking too much can lead to poor blood circulation in the scalp and hormonal imbalances.
In addition, amino acids are needed to break down alcohol, but they are actually the main components of hair. Instead of reaching the hair, these amino acids are used to break down alcohol, hindering hair growth.
In addition, it has been found that acetaldehyde, which is produced when alcohol is broken down, increases dihydrotestosterone, which is the cause of AGA (androgenetic alopecia).
Therefore, it is possible that drinking alcohol can cause hair loss.

If you have a stiff scalp, will one scalp massage improve it?

Based on the knowledge of a hairdresser, after one scalp massage, the scalp of the customer is usually back to its hard state by the time of the next visit. Just like the flexibility of the body, it is important to continue to massage the scalp every day. Both the scalp and face are muscles, so by continuing the massage, they will become soft enough to move.
If possible, we recommend going to a head spa once or twice a month, but we also recommend incorporating a scalp massage after your bath, even if it's just for three minutes a day.
We will also be sharing information on how to do your own scalp massage, so please look forward to it.
